Report Damage Caused by Spring Snowmelt

Residents Encouraged to Report All Damage Caused by Spring Snowmelt

Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared a state of emergency in Houghton and Gogebic Counties. Ontonagon, Baraga, and Marquette Counties have declared local emergencies and are expected to be added to the state declaration in the coming days.

As local officials, emergency managers, and state police are monitoring the situation, assessing damage, and providing needed resources, all residents and business owners in Houghton, Gogebic, Ontonagon, Baraga, Marquette counties, and the neighboring counties of Keweenaw, Iron, Dickinson, Menominee, Alger, and Delta are asked to take pictures and report any damage caused by water.

System maintenance has been completed and MIFILE is operational. Filers should begin using the online system once again.


UPDATE - 12/02/2022
Due to unexpected circumstances the new MIFILE courts in the state are temporarily unavailable for e-filing including Gogebic. Filers are responsible for filing documents on paper as required by MI Court Rule.


We are excited to announce that Gogebic County Probate Court and the 98th District Court (civil filings only at this time) will be going live with MiFILE on November 17, 2022. All attorneys submitting filings with the court will be required to e-file as required by Michigan Court Rule 1.109(G)(3)(f). Our court has elected to mandate self-represented litigants, and they too will be required to e-file. As such, on November 17, 2022, attorneys and self-represented filers will be required to e-file court documents via MiFile. Read More

Covid Restrictions Implemented

COVID UPDATE

Beginning January 29th inmate visitation will once again be offered. However, only one person will be allowed in the lobby at a time. We will try to communicate any times that need to be modified when you schedule your visit as best we can. We will also start to do applicant and license fingerprinting on the 29th as well.

PUBLIC NOTICE

Due to the rapid rise in case counts of COVID in our area, and the high transmission rate of the Omicron variant, inmate visitation will be cancelled until further notice. Applicant and license fingerprinting is also cancelled until further notice. If you do not have to make an in person visit to our office we would ask that you please don't. Call 911 or (906)667-0203 if you need law enforcement service.

When entering any county facility, including the courthouse,  we are also asking that mask usage be observed.

Candidates seeking the appointment for the office of
Gogebic County Sheriff

The Gogebic County Prosecutor, Probate Judge and County Clerk are seeking applicants to the fill the unexpired term of Gogebic County Sheriff per State Statue (MCL 168.209 & MCL 201.35). The Sheriff’s term of office would have expired on 12/31/2024.

A basic resume must be included along with a letter of application, which includes a statement as to why you believe you should be appointed.

Per State election law MCL 168.209(3) the county sheriff unexpired term will be part of the 2022 election cycle, with a partisan primary election in August and the general election in November.

Telephone 10 Digit Dialing Change

Important Info About Local Dialing
The FCC has recently designated the 3-digit number 988 to serve as the National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline. Beginning July 16, 2022, callers in crisis will be routed to trained mental health counselors when dialing 988. Think of it as the 911 for mental health emergencies.
 
What This Means For You
To ensure that all calls to 988 reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, providers are required to mandate 10-digit dialing across our network. This means callers will be required to input both the area code and telephone number to connect, even when making local calls.

This requirement goes into effect October 24, 2021. On and after this date, calls dialed with only 7 digits may not be completed. Read More

The non-motorized trail now runs from US-51 in Hurley, through Ironwood, Bessemer, and currently ends in Ramsay.
